Remember when the only way to get truly natural skin and body care was to make it yourself – often with hit or miss results? I definitely do, and so does my husband . . . especially the summer we switched to homemade deodorant. In the middle of a Texas heatwave.

While I eventually succeeded with that recipe and many others, I’m so glad I don’t have to make every single thing from scratch anymore.

Why I Don’t Always DIY

Homemade skincare doesn’t need to be complicated – slathering coconut oil on your face totally counts as a one ingredient moisturizer.

BUT, when you want to support a specific goal like promoting firmness or evening out skin tone, blending ingredients that truly work with each other AND your skin’s unique biology takes research, experimentation, and time.

For me, sometimes life just gets too busy for that approach, and sometimes DIYing is not cost effective. For example, certain formulations work best with teeny tiny amounts of lots of ingredients. Even when I buy the smallest amounts possible, I end up with leftover raw ingredients that may not be used up before they expire.

So, although I still create my own skincare when it makes sense, Primally Pure has become one of my absolute favorite companies to purchase pre-made options from. Here’s why:

Real, Recognizable Results

You’ve probably heard that bakuchiol is an amazing natural alternative to retinol. It’s helpful for:

  • Creating a more even skin tone
  • Softening fine lines and wrinkles
  • Soothing acne flares + inflammation
  • Enhancing hyaluronic acid production
  • Supporting collagen + elastin production

. . . all without the harsh effects of retinol, including skin peeling and sun sensitivity.

The challenge with bakuchiol and similar ingredients is that some companies add them to formulations in order to take advantage of a trend, often without really considering how to design the formulation for maximum benefit.

Primally Pure takes a different approach. They carefully craft formulations with potent ingredients that work together to support a goal such as supporting skin suppleness or clarity.

For example, their Plumping Serum combines bakuchiol with other ingredients that support youthful, resilient skin, including.

  • Castor oil to support collagen synthesis and hydration. Castor oil has a low molecular weight that allows it to penetrate deeply into tissues, making it especially helpful for visibly hydrating and plumping skin.
  • Pomegranate seed oil to support cell renewal, hydration and collagen synthesis.
  • Green coffee oil and astaxanthin to promote skin elasticity and even skin tone, leaving skin with a dewy, youthful glow.

Of course, what’s not included is just as important as what is – there are no formaldehyde releasers, PFAS, parabens or other sneaky ingredients.

For me, the Plumping Serum is a total winner, and it’s a great example of the care that goes into each formulation.

My skin soaks it up, and over time I’ve noticed an increase in skin plumpness. It also smells amazing so I look forward to using it, and since a little goes a long way it lasts a long time.

My Top Recommendations

Plumping Serum – As I mentioned above, this is by far one of my favorite products from Primally Pure. In addition to long-term benefits that build over time, it also contains rich natural pigments that infuse skin with an instant glow.

Soothing Cream – Made with grass-fed tallow, emu oil and other nourishing ingredients, this cream deeply hydrates and calms skin. The addition of blue tansy makes it extra soothing, and the natural blue tint helps balance out any redness that’s present.

Blue Tansy Body Oil – I use this oil to lock in moisture after a shower. It smells amazing, absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling so soft.

Fancy Face Serum – Perfect for all skin types, this antioxidant-rich serum comes in a pregnancy-safe version that leaves out commonly used essential oils that should be avoided while expecting.

Deodorant – This is one of Primally Pure’s most popular products for good reason. Made without aluminum, parabens, fragrance, triclosan, talc, and propylene glycol, each stick uses a small amount of finely milled baking soda to keep armpits fresh while minimizing the potential for irritation. My favorites are the Blue Tansy and Charcoal.
